Assisting with Ambulation
Many people with IDD have limited mobility. You may need to help them safely move from one place to another. In this course, you will learn about the reasons people need help ambulating. You will also learn about why ambulation is so important, and tools people can use to help them move. Finally, you will learn about how you can support someone to ambulate safely.

Instructor: Diane VanHusen, QIDP
Diane VanHusen received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany. She has over 35 years of experience serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their supporters, including roles as direct support professional, early intervention teacher, IDD case manager, and executive director for an ICF/IID facility. She has developed and provided training on a variety of topics related to intellectual and developmental disability services.

Ms. Veltri received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has seven years of nursing experience working with older adults with IDD. She is a member of the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices and advocates strongly for the well-being of older adults with IDD. She currently works as a Clinical Coordinator registered nurse in a retirement community for older adults with IDD. She also trains support staff members on medication practices and dementia support skills.
